Often credited for tirelessly working to preserve our planet long before global warming hit the mainstream radar, Kim Carlson is an eco-savvy entrepreneur, green business author and eco-chic lifestyle expert. She is the Founder of five successful companies that use earth-friendliness as their driving force. Carlson's book, Green Your Work: Boost Your Bottom Line While Reducing Your Eco-Footprint - about the many advantages of being an environmentally responsible business - was released in 2009.
Kim 's latest business venture is EarthSmart Consumer Certified, a green seal of approval that defines and authenticates green consumer products for retailers, brands and the consumer. Products with the EarthSmart seal of approval have been through a rigorous 3rd party environmental audit at the factory level to assure that they meet our standards of environmental and social compliance. Expect to start seeing the seal on products in stores in 2010.
Kim practices what she preaches. (Except she doesn't really preach, she enthuses.) For over twenty years, she has been a high-profile, socially responsible business leader, eco-preneur and activist called upon to consult for corporations, universities, governments and consumer groups. She has worked with politicians and policy makers as Chair of the Minnesota Environmental Initiative, a member of the Governors Roundtable for Sustainability and as a Public Policy Forum Fellow at the Humphrey Institute of the University of Minnesota. Kim was a pioneer in the green housing movement in the early 90s, which subsequently has become a major national phenomenon. She is also the founder of five companies that use earth-friendliness as their driving force and has served as a board member for numerous non-profit environmental organizations.
As the trusted voice for consumers who are learning about being green, Kim reaches over 50 million people per year. Kim, as the EarthSmart Consumer, can be seen and heard as a frequent eco-expert on national talk radio and network television. She writes the Footprint blog about the pleasures and challenges of green living for the Minneapolis StarTribune. She hosted one of the first weekly green national radio show called Living the Green Life and is a guest writer for many national magazines and blogs on the topic of green living and working including The San Francisco Chronicle, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Los Angeles Times, The Daily Green and many more.
