Recycling - What Happens To It?
Some of the Twin Cities haulers are picking up recycling with the same truck that picks up rubbish. The recycling appears to be going to the landfill instead of the recycling center but it is going to the recycling center, sorted and shipped off and made into new containers and products. The new trucks have separate compartments for rubbish and recycling with a special arm that automatically gets it into the right bin.
Tips
• Call your city recycling coordinator to find out what you can recycle in your location
• Remove lids but don't worry about cleaning the container perfectly
• Don't buy what you can't recycle
• When in doubt throw it out - don't risk contaminating the recycling
